Isi artikel
Tuberculin test is one of several parameters used to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) in children. The induration formed in tuberculin test depends on macrophag activation by IFN-? produced by Th1. In children with atopy, the domination of Th2 will produce IL-1 0 which will depress production of IFN-? by Th1 and subsequently inhibit macrophag activation leading to reduction of induration diameter. The aim of this study was to compare the difference between the induration diameter in tuberculin testing between atopic and non-atopic children with TB. This was a comparative analytic study with cross sectional design, conducted from January to February 2006. Subjects were children with TB, aged 2-14 years, attended at Respirology Pediatric Clinic in Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung. Data concerning the diameter of induration in tuberculin testing were obtained from medical records. Atopy according to positive skin prick test result to any of the seven alergen tested. The induration diameter of tuberculin test between atopy and nonatopy was compared using the diference between two mean value of student t test. The subjects consisted of 30 (18 boys, 12 girls) atopic children with TB and 44 (22 boys, 22 girls) nonatopic children with TB. The mean age of atopy and nonatopic children with TB were 83.60 and 70.39 month, respectively. The mean induration diameterof tuberculin test in atopy (10.33 ± 2.893 mm) was smaller than that in nonatopic children with TB (16.34 ± 1.13 mm), with p = 0.001. The induration diameters of tuberculin test in children with TB was smaller among atopic compared to nonatopic children.
