Isi artikelSports events are the world’s most extensive media events when it comes to attention, attraction value and popularity. Moreover, mediated sports are becoming increasingly important as an instrument in the competition for audiences. In a situation where both communication technology and the media are changing, and where sport is essential as a driving force, the book Sports Journalism is, indeed, timely. It is particularly so because the social institution of journalism is seriously challenged in the competition for future market segments. As such, Sports Journalism is an essential contribution to the understanding of the former and future formative processes and symbiosis between the sports and media industries, and of the position of journalism within these processes.
