Isi artikelThere have been a number of scholars who have demonstrated, as Meyer notes in her opening line, that ‘paedophiles are currently a high-profile problem in the UK’, but what makes this book notable is Meyer’s bold attempt to demonstrate ‘how and why paedophilia is produced as a significant social problem’ (p. 3). The book manages to achieve this by ‘unravel[ling] and scrutinis[ing] our discursive understanding of paedophilia’ (p. 4) with a qualitative analysis of media texts (the conservative Sunday tabloid The News of the World, and the liberal daily broadsheet The Guardian), focus group discussions and documentary evidence.
