Isi artikel
Body image is hot news and helps increase sales and revenue in contemporary media. Media coverage of body image issues has in fact reached a point of obsession. If it’s not obesity today, it is anorexia or bulimia, or various forms of body piercing and cosmetics beautification of the body, tomorrow. The media are at the centre of the body image debate. Surprisingly, little work has been done either to theorize the relationship between media and body image or to conceptualize the link between media content and representations of body image issues, audience consumption and interpretation of these representations and their perceptual or attitudinal ‘effect’ on media audiences and consumers.
