Isi artikelThe concept of mainstream authors and journalists writing about videogames is not a new phenomenon. Indeed, as Martin Amis’s Invasion of the Space Invaders (1982) shows, ruminations on the cultural value of videogames stretch back into the ‘golden age’ of gaming, long before sociology, media studies or cultural studies engaged with the medium in any meaningful way. Since Amis’s opulent work, videogames have percolated into popular consciousness not only in the form of Tetris, Pokemon, Lara Croft and Mario, but also in the fiction of Scarlett Thomas (2003), D.B. Weiss (2003) and Douglas Coupland (2006).
