Abstract
Business organization worldwide are implementing techniques and technologies to better manage their knowledge. Their objective is to improve the quaility of the contributions people make to their organizations by helping them to make sense of the context within which the organization exist, to take responsibility, cooperate, and share what they know and learn, and to effectively challenge, negotiate, and learn from others. We consider how the concepts, tools, and techniques of organizational knowledge management can be applied in public schools. We suggest that some reform initiatives can support the development of new attitudes toward teacher professional knowledge. We describe a framework for knowledge management support for teacher in which engaging in more concrete knowledge sharing can bootstrap the attainment of more abstract level s on knowledge sharing. We present an envinsionment of a knowledge management support system emphasizing long-term participatory design, the integration of synchronous and synchronous interactions, places as a metaphor for organizing knowledge resources and activities, and multiple views of knowledge.
