McNair is an enthusiastic supporter of reality-influenced current affairs with its far greater interest in the ‘soft’ subjects of emotions, family life and consumption. The focus here is less on technological opportunities and interactivity and more on a change in content; away from the more serious and didactic fare of PSB towards the ‘interests and problems which interest ordinary people’ (p. 158).
