Abstract
Background : In the last decade in there is a transition about nutrition problem to obesity and overweight . nutritional problems are found mainly in adult, adolescents , and school age children in many developed countries in the world. This obesity problem was resulted from energy imbalance , where energy intake is bigger than energy that used for our daily activity. Therefore this research was conducted to find out the relationship between fast food and beverage consumption with BMI in late adolescent.
Methods: The study was conducted using cross-sectional method that performed at the Medical School of Atma Jaya . The sampling method is random sampling . A total of 114 student respondents participated , they were given questionnaire, their height and weight was measured and after that we get their BMI. T Chi -Square analysis was used to find out the relationship between fast food and beverage consumption with BMI in late adolescent.
Results: female ( 61.4 % ) and 19 years old ( 40.4 %) , rarely consume fast food (74,6%) and beverages (61,4%) and have a normal BMI (55,3%).There is significant association between fast food consumption with BMI (p-value = 0.001) and there is also a significant association between the consumption of beverage with BMI (p-value = 0.031)
Conclusion : There is association between consumption of fast food and beverage to BMI that more frequent someone eating fast food and drinking beverages, more higher their BMI.
