Abstract
Background. Hernia is a common health problems and about 75% incidence of groin hernia is located in the form of an inguinal hernia. Inguinal hernias can be triggered by several factors, one of which is obesity. Obesity or overweight will naturally increase the intra-abdominal pressure that can easily push the fat tissue and internal organs to be a hernia.

Objectives. Knowing the relationship between nutritional status with the excess incidence of inguinal hernia in Atma Jaya hospital and it’s characteristics.
Methods. This study is a retrospective correlative analytic. Data retrieved from the medical records of 62 patients in the mawar ward Atma Jaya Hospital in 2010-2014 who comply the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Result. The number of male patients in this study were 48 patients and female patients as many as 14 patients, with a mean age of 48 years. The prevalence of inguinal hernia in male patients at 51.6% and female patients of 1.6%. Inguinal hernia prevalence is highest in the age group above 50 years of 32.2%. Of the 33 patients with inguinal hernia, 10 patients (16.1%) had excess nutritional status and 23 patients (37.1%) had no excess nutritional status.

Conclusion. The results of the analysis with the Chi-square test statistic obtained p (0.2935)> a (0.05) so that it can be concluded that there was no correlation between nutritional status with the excess incidence of inguinal hernia in Atma Jaya Hospital.
