Abstract
Introductions. Sarcopenia is defined as the loss of skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength associated with aging. Lifestyle has a major impact on sarcopenia where lifestyle changes are important risk factors of chronic disease in the elderly, namely dyslipidemia, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. The risk factors associated with the occurrence of sarcopenia which resulted in a decreased quality of life in the elderly. This research to gain an overview sarcopenia and its association with dyslipidemia in a nursing home Jakarta.
Method. This study was an analytic study, with a design of cross sectional. A total of 138 simple randomly selected respondents in filling out the questionnaires, physical examination and laboratory tests. Respondents came from several nursing home located in Jakarta are also simple randomly selected. Data were analyzed by using Chi-Square statistical method with P = 0.05.
Results. Based on the results of the analysis indicated sarcopenia risk factors in this study is the gender with P=0,012 (P < a), presence of hypertension with P = 0,020 (P < a), and presence of cardiovascular disease with P = 0,042 (P
a).
Conclusion. There are some conditions and certain diseases that cause the elderly are more susceptible to sarcopenia. Risk factors for the cause of sarcopenia is sex, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
