Abstract
Tahu kuning is one of the most favored food in Indonesia which has various nutrients. Tahu kuning needed colorings during the making process, both natural coloring and synthetic coloring. However, not all synthetic coloring is allowed to be added to food. One of the prohibited food coloring that is widely used in food is metanil yellow. Metanil yellow is hazardous to health because of its carsinogenic potential thus becoming the underlying problem for researcher to conduct research of identifying the existence of metanil yellow usage in traditional markets located at Tanjung Priok area and Pluit Districts North Jakarta. The experiment type being used is descriptive study. The random samples are tested qualitatively using the Chemkit’s brand Metanil Yellow Test Kit. The result showed that from the total of 23 yellow tofu samples that were collected from the Tanjung priokmarket, there is 6.67% of samples which are positive containing metanil yellow while the samples collected from Pluit District showed that none contained metanil yellow. Based on these study, it is concluded that the tahu kuning at Tanjung Priok market contain metanil yellow.
