Abstract
Snail (Achatina fulica) slime is one of the worldwide trending topics in the recent years. The journal of “Media Kedokteran Hewan” and “Scientific Research and Essay” in 2007 states that snail slime extracts (mucin) have some effects on wound healing. This research is experimental, it used Sprague Dawley white mice (Rattus norvegicus) as the sample that got wound intervention, smeared by snail slime extract, and then observed in 13 days by measuring the wound length every 3 days. In this research, there are 4 groups that got different intervention, which are the negative control, positive control (Bioplacenton®), mucin 2 mg/mL, and mucin 4 mg/mL. This research was held in “Medicine Faculty of Indonesia University” on March and April 2014. The result of this research is that Bioplacenton®, mucin 2 mg/mL, and mucin 4 mg/mL are effective on wound healing, marked by a < 0,05 compared to the negative control. Bioplacenton® and mucin 4 mg/mL have the same effectiveness. Mucin 2 mg/mL is less effective compared to Bioplacenton® and mucin 4 mg/mL. The conclusion of this research is the usage of snail slime extract topically can accelerate the wound healing process.
