Abstract
Background: Aspergillosis is an infection disease caused by aspergillus. The most common aspergillus species found in aspergillosis patient are Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus, and Aspergillus niger. Terminalia catappa leaves or known as ketapang have antifungal activity againts A. flavus. The antifungal activity is affected by the solvent that used in extraction. This study aims to identify steroid, flavonoid and saponin contained in ethanol and hexane extract of T. catappa leaves and also to compare the effectiveness A. flavus inhibition from both extracts.
Method: This study is an experimental laboratory that used disc diffusion method.
Result: In this study, saponin was identified in both extracts and steroid was identified only in hexane extract. The disc diffusion test of ethanol extract of T. catappa leaves did not show any zone of inhibition, the disc diffusion test of hexane extract of T. catappa leaves showed 18,6 mm zone of inhibition.
Conclusion: There is a significant difference of the effectiveness A. flavus inhibition from etanol and hexane extract of T. catappa leaves (p=0.000).
