Background. Nurses often experience work stresses from excessive work load, big responsibility, and concerns for their carrier development which may lead to menatal and emotional disorder. Objective. The objective of this research is to find the relation between work stresses and psychopathology in in-patient ward and out-patient ward nurses of Atma Jaya Hospital. Method. This cross-sectional study, from 66 nurses (in-patient ward and out-patient ward) who were taken randomly, was started from October 2013 to November 2014 at Atma Jaya Hospital. This research used demographic qustionnaire, and Symptoms CheckList Questionnaire (SCI-90). Result. Out of 66, 22.8% nurses had psychopathology such as 18.9% obsessive-compulsive disorder, 17.3% interpersonal sensitivity and 13.1% symptoms of other disorders. In-patient nurses had more moderate level of stress compare to out-patient nurses. The data were processed using chi-square and showed nurses psychopathology was associated with work load and role conflict (p<0.05). Conclusion. Work stresses in in-patient ward and out-patient ward nurses of private hospital are risk to have psychopathology. |
