Abstract
Degenerative diseases is increasing today, and one of the triggers is oxidative stress. Increased incidence of oxidative stress is associated with an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants. SOD is one of the important enzyme in counteracting free radicals. Objective literature study to investigate the relationship between enzymatic antioxidants SOD gene variation with incidence of oxidative stress.
The method used by search journal with data obtained from the google scholar, pubmed, proquest, clinical key, springelink, elsevier, and library of Atma Jaya. Keywords used to search online is oxidative stress, SOD,, antioxidant enzimatic, and degenerative disease.
Antioxidant gene variation among SOD3-R213G, Mn-SOD Ala-9Val, and Val16Ala can affect activity, cell binding and transport enzymes. This suggests that the polymorphism does not necessarily affect the levels of antioxidants SOD, but also can only affect its activity. SOD gene variations associated with the occurrence of oxidative stress such as cancer, neurodegenerative, cardiovascular disorders, and diabetes. Antioxidants SOD gene variation may affect the incidence of diseases of oxidative stress.
