Abstract
Herpes simplex viruses are the member of the herpesviridae family, it is doublestranded DNA virus and has envelope.There are two types of herpes virus, type 1 herpes simplex virus and type 2 herpes simplex virus. Type 1 herpes simplex virus generally infected the orolabial and pharynx while type 2 herpes simplex virus predominantly infected the genital area. Type 1 herpes simplex virus is commonly transmitted by non-genital contact and type 2 herpes simplex virus is mostly transmitted by sexual activities. Over the last few decades, the frequency of genital herpes infection in adolescent and women has been increasing dramatically. The high incidence of genital herpes infection in age productive women has lead to the elevated number of neonatal herpes. In the line with the advancement in technology,the anti herpes virus drug that is intended to lessen the reccurency of herpes infection in pregnancy and to prevent the viral transmission from mother to fetus has been found. This paper will discuss the efficacy of administering anti herpes virus drug to pregnant women with type 2 herpes virus infection to prevent the neonatal herpes.
