Abstract
Clean drinking water is a primary requirement for human. Contamination of drinking water causes water-borne diseases such as diarrhea. This study was aimed to examine the bacteriological quality of drinking water in Muara Baru embankment. Drinking water quality testing parameters include the examination of coliform bacteria and E. coli. This study was conducted by using Most Probable Number and Total Plate Count Method, then compared by the standardized value set by the National Agency of Drug and Food no. HK.00.06.1.52.4011 that is <2 APM/100ml and 102 CFU/100ml and regulations set by Ministry of Health no. No.492/MENKES/Per/IV/2010 and No.907/MENKES/SK/VII/2002 that is coliform bacteria and E. coli count are 0 colonies/100ml. Based on the research, using MPN method, it was found that five out of eight drinking water samples showed positive results of coliform bacteria and three out of eight drinking water samples showed positive results of E. coli. When using TPC method, three out of eight drinking water samples showed positive results of coliform bacteria within the range of 21 CFU/100ml to 340 CFU/100ml. In conclusion, there were 62.5% of the sample that was not worth drinking using MPN method and 37.5% of the sample that was not worth drinking using the TPC method.
