Abstract
Introduction.
The spine is the part of the human body which is important to support and maintain the stability of the body. The spine also has another function that protects nerve fibers. Along with human growth, spine also continue to grow and are subject to change. Some research suggests that the growth of the spine in children aged 11 years was 15 mm per year and in children aged 16 years of growth was 5 mm per year. The spine also tend to have abnormalities such as kyphosis and lordosis increased nearly 6 degrees at the peak of growth.
Methods.
The method used in this research was a cross sectional descriptive statistics and analytical observation in which the observations will be made for each individual. The samples taken were 58 students in grade 1 s / d 3 Dhammasavana Junior High School.
Results
A total of 2 of 4 students who uses a one strapped bag have a normal spinal curves and 2 students have a curved spine lordosis. 42 students who uses the backpack has a normal spinal curves and the remaining 12 had a curved spine lordosis. A total of 9 out of 14 students who uses active transportation (bicycles and walking) have a normal spinal curves and the rest have a curved spine lordosis. 35 people who uses passive transportation (cars, motorcycles and public transport) have a normal spinal curves and 9 the rest has a curved spine lordosis. By using the Fisher's exact test it was found that there was no relationship between the type of school bag with curvature of the spine (p = 0243) and there is no relationship between the type of transportation to school with a curvature of the spine (p = 0.291).
Conclusion
Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that there is no influence of the type of school bags and transportation to school with the curvature of the spine of the senior high school students.
