Medical students must encounter real patients during clerkship in the clinical rotation where students have chance to link theories and clinical condition. Students will learn more about diseases, how to diagnose, how to give treatments/medications, and the most important is how to deal with different kinds of patients with various conditions. To understand those, there is no better way except learn it from patient itsel£ Patients are the real teachers. Each patient needs different ways to tell and to respond to the illness. It is influenced by many factors such as experience of having illness, educational, cultural, social and economical backgrounds. The understanding will be gained by good communication skills. A good history taking will lead the doctor to perform proper physical examination which lead to correct diagnose. Explaining clearly to the patients about laboratories procedures that will be done and how it helps to find definite diagnosis may possibly help patients to understand the disease and involve them into decision making and treatment choices. Students must realize that patients as individuals who have rights and feelings. Patients should not be put as learning objects but as teachers that must be respected. As individuals with many factors that influence them, patients should be treated holistically.
