It has been hypothesized that white matter lesion in cerebral have microvascular etio¬logy. There are a lot of research to prove the correlation between retinal microvascular abnormalities and cerebral small vessel disease. The eye is a direct out pouching of the brain and the examination of the retina especially the artery and the vein from the retina and optic nerve allows the physician to see the effects of certain diseases first hand. The examination can deduce pathophysiology or simply to identify disease landmarks, the examination of the fundus of the eye is richly rewarding.
