Isi artikel
Autoimmune diseases (AD) present a wide spectrum of clinical problems both in type and severity. In the absence of definitive treatment, management is aimed at reducing immunologically induced inflammation and therefore symptoms and damage to vital organs. Unfortunately this often involves the use of potentially toxic substances either acutely (e.g. cyclophosphamide induced aplastic anaemia) or, perhaps more insidiously and importantly, cumulatively (e.g. steroid induced osteoporosis). A delicate benefit/risk ratio exists.
