¦ In the following response to Ellis (2006), I provide a summary of cru- cial features of his arguments followed by critiques. 1. Evidence from immersion programmes demonstrates that learners can acquire a substantial amount of grammar incidentally without instruc- tion, though what is acquired is agrammatical.
