Isi artikel
A prominent example of a recurrent germline gene that seems to specialize in DNA binding is the VH gene represented by the B/W DNA 16 (BW-16) hybridoma.21 This gene belongs to the mouse J558 gene family and was identified in a large number of anti-DNA heavy chains in mice developing spontaneous autoimmune disease (for example NZB/NZW F 1,MRL/1pr), as well as in normal mice that were experimentally induced to develop a lupus like disease22 or immunized with DNA-peptide complexes. 23 The germline sequence of the BW-16 gene is probably responsible for its anti-DNA specificity, because it is usually found with very few or no somatic mutations, and it combines with a very diverse array of D, JH, Jk elements.
