Isi artikelAnti-DNA antibodies are clearly associated with the pathogenesis of SLE, but identification of the features which confer pathogenic potential upon these anti- DNA antibodies is still a matter of considerable debate. At the time of the last workshop the discussions on the structure-function relationships of anti-DNA antibodies revolved around issues of V gene usage in mAbs from both human and murine sources, and the role of particular VH and VL chains as well as of certain residues, namely arginines, in DNA recognition. The general picture emerging of a potentially pathogenic antibody was that of a high affinity, cationic IgG anti-dsDNA immunoglobulin, which was somatically mutated.
