Isi artikelThis paper is a critical reflection on the way in which ‘radical urban’ perspectives in geography and sociology, particularly those surrounding the notion of ‘locality’, have both misinterpreted the relationships among class, capital and space as they exist today in advanced industrial societies in general and Britain in particular, and facilitated the ‘new urban left’ in Labour controlled local government’s adoption of a ‘new realist’ accommodation with development capital. The argument is that the structuralist position of the ‘old’ new ‘radical geography’ and the postmodernist turn from it which constitutes the ‘new’ new radical geography are not merely wrong as ways of understanding what is happening, but have played a part in the active disablement of local class politics in both the productive and reproductive spheres
