The role of dialectical logic in Marx’s Capital is a crucial issue in the recent debate between ‘Analytical’ and more ‘Fundamentalist’ Marxists concerning the methodology of Marxian political economy. On one side, the Analytical Marxists deny that dialectics either played a useful or essential role in Capital or that it is a valid tool for Marxian political economy today (see, for example, Roemer, 1986).
