Isi artikel
The wolf and the butterfly, the two symbols most commonly associated with lupus erythematosus (LE), are both allusions to ways that the skin can be affected by this disease process (The term ’wolf symbolizes the reddened, gnawed appearance of discoid LE [DLE] lesions while ’butterfly’ signifies the symmetrical malar erythema reaction seen most often in the context of active SLE.) Thus, skin involvement has long been central to the conceptual framework that physicians have used to deal with this disease. Considering that skin involvement is the most visible and-one of the most common manifestations of LE, one would think that after almost 150 years of study and discussion there might at least be some degree of consensus concerning the nomenclature and classification of this aspect of LE.
