BACKGROUND: Medicinal plants have been used from long time ago in many places in the world. Sarang semut plant is one of the medicinal plants that demanded by the society right now. One research have concluded that sarang semut plant have polyphenols, flavonoids, and some minerals that could be used as anti-diabetic medicine. This research also concludes that antplants could cure many diseases, like diabetes mellitus and many more. To see the effect of sarang semut plant on wistar rat’s blood glucose level is the purpose of this research.
METHODS: Experimental research was done in 28 days with 28 wistar rats as the research subjects. The subjects which divided into 4 groups: control, intervention 1, intervention 2, and intervention 3 were given water, 7, 14, and 21 mg sarang semut plant per day respectively. Before and after the intervention a blood glucose test was done with a glucosemeter.
RESULTS: Based on the data analysis the reduction of blood sugar in 4 groups are 6.14 mg/dl, 8.71 mg/dl, 7.57 mg/dl, and 12.56 mg/dl respectively.
On the paired t test the p value are 0.724 for intervention group 1, 0.830 for intervention group 2, and 0.435 for intervention group 3.
CONCLUSION: There are no significant reduction in blood glucose level in healthy wistar rats group that administered with sarang semut plant. |
