Against the backdrop of economic crisis in Brazil, this article looks at patterns of dismissal and rehiring in an electrical factory there . It shows how management maintained intact the established division of labour and discusses the extent to which women werediscriminated against. The paper raises interesting questions about the impact of crisis and unemployment on women workers
