Many factors affect the depression in older people such as psychosocial factors. Methods : a total 97 older peoples were enrolled with a mean age 67+/- 6.1 years. This cross sectional study employed the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was done to investigate significant psychological factors. Results : regression analysis suggested that macro-social level (social economic status :OR,3.2; 95% CI: 1.2-8.6; p=0.006 and working :OR,3.2; 95% CI: 1.1 - 7.0; p=0.03 ) and messo-social level (participation in religious organization : OR, 2.9 ;95% CI : 1.2-7.0; p = 0.02 ; observance of religious duties : OR, 0.42; 95% CI : 0.22 -0.98; p = 0.03 and gender : OR,3.3; 95% CI : 1.4-9.8; p =0.006), as well as micro-social level ( exercise : OR, 3.6; 95% CI: 1.5 - 9.9) were significant independent risk factors. Conclusion : psychosocial factors especially messo-social level among older persons in west Jakarta assisted depression.
