Nosocomial infection is one of the important issues faced by all of the world include Indonesia. That infection had terrible effects for both patients and family as well as for health-care workers and hospitals. Therefore, nosocomial infections should be prevented, one through the implementation of universal precautions precisely. Hand hygiene behavior has an important role for reduce and prevent nosocomial infections. Hand hygiene is easy to be implemented but has great benefit. Unfortunately, compliance of health-care workers to implement hand hygiene still low. Based on the problem, this research was conducted to know the rate of hand hygiene behavior of health-care workers in Atma Jaya hospital. This research used descriptive observational design with 45 respondents. Data were collected by direct observation for two weeks. Then data presented in percentage. The result showed hand hygiene behavior of health-care workers only 24,57%. Conclusion of this research is hand hygiene behavior of health care workers in level 2 and 3 NICU Atma Jaya Hospital still low. Therefore, researcher have some suggestions, one is held training of universal precautions routinely and periodically for all of health-care workers in order to improve knowledge about hand hygiene and precautions against nosocomial infections. |
