Background: Eldery population in the world increases annually concomitant increasing life expentacy. This situation impacts of the health of the eldery, especially risk of frailty in their physical condition. In addition, the eldery may also have impaired cognitive function and mental disorders, such as dementia and depression. In Indonesia, the research data that describes a direct relationship between these disorders and frailty is still very minimal. The purpose of this study to determine the eldery who have dementia and depression have risk of frailty. Methods: This study is a descriptive analytic study with cross-sectional design. Population studies are eldery aged 60 years and older in Jakarta. The total of sample is 128 respondents which randomly selected. Data were analized by using Chi-Square, t-Independen, and Anova. Results: This study shows that characteristic of respondents included gender, age, education level, and cognitive disorder altogether affect on frailty (P< 0,05). However, mental disorder don’t have effect on frailty (P > 0,05). Respondents who have impaired cognitive function also affects the assessment of right and left hand handgrips (P < 0,05). Conclusion: Age, gender, education level, and dementia factors affect to occurrence of frailty in eldery. Dementia factor also affect on right and left handgrip strength. |
