Isi artikel
A family-focused approach for the assessment and management of adolescent substance abuse is advocated as more effective than traditional individual assessment approaches. Adolescent substance abuse prevalence data and reasons for its under-recognition by physicians are outlined. Reasons why it is important to use a family-focused approach and the role of family factors in alcohol abuse are discussed. Specific clinical strategies and techniques for conducting a family-focused assessment are provided.
