Abstract
Obesity is one of the health problems in countries around the world, and not without exception to this problem are developing countries, including Indonesia. A number of studies have shown that consumption of green tea can help in the effort to reduce body weight through a number of ways. A decrease in body weight is caused by the catechins, especially EGCG, in green tea, which can increase the body’s energy expenditure, and hinder the digestion and absorption of fats in the body, as well as creating a sensation of fullness in the stomach.
This matter is explored in this writting using literature study method. In this literature study, the writter tries to explore the numerous studies that had been done on this issue, with focus on experimental study that states the effects of green ta on weight reduction. In the experimental study, results consistently show that the consumption of green tea that is high in catechins, especially EGCG, can help to reduce the body weight on people with overweight issue. Further studies are needed to learn the effectiveness of green tea in the effort to decrease body weight.
