Abstract
Issues of 'deficit' play a crucial role in the social world in fields as diverse as * Health * Education * Management * Social work * Law Discourses of Deficit presents original contributions from key practitioners and researchers exploring how people routinely and at particular sites are discursively constructed as deficient. How people are evaluated in interactions materially affects their life chances and can serve as a warrant for interventions in their personal lives. The book argues that taking a multiple perspective on research offers a means whereby the role played by 'deficit' can be illuminated and explained across a wide range of professional and organizational domains.
