Isi artikel
Child maltreatment is an important concern for pediatricians. The potential roles that pediatricians can play with regard to screening, prevention, diagnosis, reporting, treatment, and advocacy are discussed in this article. A broadened conceptual framework that includes a child’s family and home environment as a key to understanding the context in which a child lives is presented, as are the factors underpinning child maltreatment. Included in this expanded perspective is spousal abuse, which has substantial ramifications for children. A better understanding of these issues should enhance the comprehensiveness of pediatric primary care and the pediatrician’s abilities to help address family violence.
