Amblyopia is reduced visual acuity resulting from poor or regressed visual development from various causes. It is a common disorder that can have a lifelong impact on those affected. Screening efforts have been instituted in an attempt to identify this disorder in children as young as possible. The prognosis from treatment is markedly improved when it is detected early and treated promptly.
