Isi artikel
Visual dysfunction is commonly found in children with developmental disabilities and includes amblyopia, strabismus, refraction errors, cataracts, and glaucoma. Because visual deficits can interfere with development, early and periodic assessment is extremely important. Pediatricians can screen for visual deficits, ocular alignment, and ocular abnormalities and can refer to ophthalmologists for more specific vision testing, refraction, and electrophysiologic studies. Ophthalmologic interventions range from prescription of glasses and patching to surgery.
