Isi artikel
Drugs that influence central nervous system function can be helpful in the treatment of several symptoms that affect children with developmental disabilities. Ihese symptoms include spasticity, tics, dystonia, self-injurious behavior, disruptive behavior, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Categories of medications discussed include stimulants, neuroleptics, antispasticity drugs, antidepressants, and other neurotransmitter agents. Identification and measurement of target symptoms at baseline and during drug conditions, in conjunction with careful medical monitoring, will provide the pediatrician and family with information needed to make decisions about drug treatment.
