In Czechoslovakia we devote much time and care to talented students in most subjects. Competitions and “olympiads” in mathematics, physics, biology, and geography have a long history. Pupils compete at their schools, and the most promising ones usually end up in an international competition. In 1984 we held our first regional English - language competition. However, we had to wait till 1991 for an All - Slovak English competition.
