Isi artikelIndependence is one of basic living skills need to be mastered be every child in order to survive in the next stage of life. This principle also applies in special needs children, especially for totally blind. Visual limitations sometimes make up a whole new reason for these special children to be dependence to others in order to fulfill their needs, especially in every day basic living skills. In early interventions preschool (3-5 years old) for special needs children, one of the interventions given by schools is basic living skills development. One of teh basic living skills need to be developed is getting dress behavior. This program is intended to shape independence dressed behavior on totally blind preschool children (3-5 years old). This program consists of 15 sessions with 3 stages. There first sessions are baseline sessions and 12 others sessions and intervention sessions. Behavior shaping material was given step by step. Intervention stage consists of: first stage (every-day clothing, with T-shirt and shorts), second stage (uniform, consist of jacket with zippers, shorts with zipper, and shirt with buttons), and third stage (review and termination). First stage consist of 5 sessions, second stage consist of 5 sessions, and third stage consists of 2 sessions. Overall session was given in 2 locations: subject's school and house, on every day situation with no time limitation. Additional intervention was also given with parents and caregiver counseling. Program evaluations were done at the end of every stage. In conclutions, there are significant increases of subject's dressed ability (in every-day and uniform clothing) through prompting and fading methods.
