Cognitive impairment which is common in the elderly can interfere the productivity and daily activities of elderly and could affect the overall quality of life and physical health ultimately. In 2010, Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics shows that more than 1.4 million people of elderly in the country have cognitive impairment. Anemia is one of the factor that are considered to cause cognitive impairment in the elderly due to a decreasing red blood cells, and declining oxygen perfusion to the brain. Based on the results of Pharmacology Departemen Trisakti University in Mampang Prapatan regarding elderly, the number of women elderly who suffered anemia are 30.2% and men elderly are 11.3%. The objective of this study is to get an overview and the relationship between cognitive impairment and anemia by taking into account other factors such as age, gender, educaion level, smoking habits, exercise habits, and obesity of the elderly in Kalianyar, West Jakarta. This study is cross sectional observational analytic. By the cluster proportional random sampling, it found 130 respondents. By using Chi Square test, showed that the level of education have a significant relationship with the occurence of cognitive impairment in the elderly (P<0.05), whereas age, sex, smoking habits, exercise habits, anemia, and obesity did not have a significant relationship with occurrence of cognitive impairment of the elderly. Based on the components of cognitive function, anemia has a significant relationship with the occurrence of disturbances of the language components and age had a significant relationship with the occurrence of interfence with the construction component (P<0.05). |
