Isi artikelThe purposes of this study were to : (a) re-examine the delay retention effect (Brackbill, Bravos, & Starr;, 1962) using a recent model of feedback (Kulhavy & Stock, 1989) as a theoretical basis, (b) test the assumptions of the model using constructed response items, and (c) investigate the effects of different types of feedback on post-test performance. One hundred and fifty-four students read text, completed an initial test, judged confidences, received feedback, and completed a post-test. Results revealed : students who received feedback after a delay outperformed students who received feedback immediately, students who generated their own feedback were more precise in estimating confidence than those who were provided feedback. The predicted relationship between confidence and post-test performance emerged for initial corrects, but was weakened for errors. Results were linked to current models in memory research.
