Abstract
Acute bacterial meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges and frequently resulting in hearing impairment due to the spreading of the inflammation to the inner ear and resulting labyrinthis. Many researchers have been conducted to rule out the effectiveness of Dexamethasone to reduce the inflammation reaction in the inner ear but none of the results preveals the truth. The conclusion is made based on some of literatures published in 2002-2012 with the evidence level of 1 and 2, that although the use of dexamethasone as an adjuvant therapy in acute bacterial meningitis cases in children is not statistically significant but it should be considered as an effort in preventing hearing impairment clinically.
