Isi artikelA rationale based on a compensation model for integrating research on study activities is proposed. The model emphasizes the function of study activities, as a subclass of cognitive skills aimed at cognitive control that compensates for limitations of the components of the information-processing system. The structure of study activities thus parallels the hypothesized control mechanisms employed in the information processing system. Within this framework, study activities are viewed as cognitive activities peculiar to the specific purposes and demands of academic settings. Three factor analyses confirmed five stable basic structures : selection-oriented, memory-oriented, organization-oriented, integration-oriented, and coping-oriented strategies (which include the two factors of executive-control and coping with anxiety strategies). The implications of these findings for further development of the model and for further research are discussed.
