At many stages during their careers, teachers have to decide what English textbooks to use for teaching process. For teachers, textbooks have many advantages; they have a consistent syllabus and vocabulary and they provide an organizing framework for curricular content and ideas for activities and exercise. In addition, in the teaching process, teachers’ creativity is also needed to strengthen the materials, therefore the students can achieve their competence in target language and this study will analyze teachers’ considerations in choosing English textbooks for SMA students At many stages during their career, teachers have to decide what English book to use in the classroom. The choosing of textbook is very important as it supports the teaching and learning process in the classroom. When the find out that the book they choose is not quite complete then it means a hard work for them to add the materials. Therefore, textbook plays an important role in classroom activities. There are many considerations before they finally decide what kind of book to be used. Some of them are the display of the book, the design, the curriculum applied, the exercises and also the teaching components such as lesson plan, syllabus etc. Although, almost all book provide these things, but it is not the only thing that matters. There are other considerations that teachers have in deciding the book for example the availability of answer key, the cheaper price, the size of the book etc. This research was conducted in several SMA in Surabaya to find out what teacher’s first consideration n choosing textbooks
