Isi artikelHomophony is a common phenomenon in any language. However, multiple homophonous words are quite rare. The sound sequence /in/ is such an example. It might function as a free morpheme, as a preposition like in noun phrases like in heaven or in a hurry, as a verb particle like in give in. This sound sequence can also serve as a content word, either as an adjective, meaning ‘fashionable’, and an adverb, which has various meanings. In addition, the sequence /in/ also serves as a bound morpheme, such as a negative prefix (as in insufficient). The morpheme {in} is also found in compound words like input and intake. Still, there are many words which start with the sound sequence /in/ whose meanings are not readily seen, such as the words instant, inborn. This presentation is a preview for a preliminary study about negative words with the prefix {in-}. Due to limited space and time, its possible allomorphs [im-, il-, ir-, i?-] are not included.
