Isi artikelThis paper will be focused on exploring the process of argumentation activities as an attempt to enactive students in their learning process in EFL context. The argumentation theory, in this sense, is underpinned from Inch et al (2006) who said that it is the process of making arguments intended to justify beliefs, attitudes and values so as to influence others. They further argue that argumentation activity engages students in a system of critical thought. The argumentation activity in this piece of writing is meant to develop students’ critical thinking together with their attempts in mastering English as the target language. If these two skills are well grasped, it is hoped that students can have a weapon for their wider interaction in the years to come. This writing will firstly highlight current issues in language learning in which argumentation is made as a bridge to enhance both students’ skills in English and critical thinking. In this part, some experts’ judgment on the issue of argumentation and a room for it to develop in an EFL class would be discussed. Secondly, in the following part, Pragma-dialectics theory proposed by Eemeren and Grootendorst (2004) will be presented as an alternative means of arguments analysis. Finally, this piece of writing will be ended by some practical suggestions and implementations of some argumentation activities conducted in the EFL class
