An emerging model of medical care for children with genetic disorders is described and discussed in this article. The principles of well-child care coupled with knowledge of the natural history of a genetic disorder provide a framework for developing guidelines for routine health supervision in infants and children with these conditions. This model is applied to the follow-up and screening of children with Down syndrome, trisomy 18, and neurofibromatosis
