Drospirenone 3 mg/ethinyl estradiol 20 µg is the first oral contraceptive in Singapore with a 24/4 regimen, in which active pills are administered for 24 days, followed by 4 days of inactive pills. It is a low-dose pill with 20 µg of ethinyl estradiol. the progestin component is drospirenone 3 mg, which has progestogenic activity as well as both anti-meneralocorticoid and anti-androgenic properties. These properties make the drug suitable for the treatment of the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder and acne vulgaris, in addition to its use as an oral cntraceptive.
